Liaison with France
Lithuania is the Baltic state the most committed to its relationship with France, because of an old Francophile tradition.
The country thus has real potential to strengthen its presence in France and to a broader vision in Europe. Following a longstanding request from the Lithuanian authorities, an agreement on cultural, educational, scientific, technological and technology cooperation was signed on 4 April 2003.
Franch and Lithuanian Twinning
The French and Lithuanian twinning usually combine two municipalities, departments or regions, which wish to establish friendly relations based on a formal link (charter). This type of partnership is essential for the French and Lithuanian dynamism. They offer different types of exchanges, linguistic, educational, cultural or professional. Twinning contribute to better mutual understanding between the two countries
If partnerships are common among the oldest, twinning between regions and departments are also being developed. While they were mainly culture, sport and education, local partnerships are now in the process of diversification, as evidenced by the appearance of joint projects in fields such as economics or research.
A first major agreement of partnership between France and Lithuania has been concluded in 2005, to harmonize and align national legislation in the area of rail transport; a budget of 1.2 million Euros has been allocated to this project.
