Beyond the celebration of its 1000 years of history and having been elected as the European Capital of Culture in 2009, Vilnius is also located at the geographic center of Europe (calculation carried out by French scientists in 1989).

Lithuania by its geographical location is a crossroads between a growing Europe and a Soviet empire which has today disappeared.
Lithuania is accessible by land, air and sea.

By air

The road network is one of the best Baltic of the Baltic countries. The local and international transport is well developed. It is faster to travel by bus than by train.

By sea

The port of Klaipeda port is the most northerly of the east coast of the Baltic Sea which does not freeze in winter. The shorter the means to come from France to Lithuania by ferry:

Kiel (Germany) - Klaïpeda (Lithuania):

6 departures per week, the duration is about 21 hours.
The distance by car from Paris to Kiel: 975 km

Sassnitz (Germany) - Klaïpeda (Lithuania):

6 departures per week, the duration is about 16 hours.

The distance by car from Paris to Sassnitz: 1200km

Car inssurance: the green card is valid in Lithuania. Those who do not haven it, must buy liability insurance as soon they inter into the country.

Speed limits:
50 km/h in urban areas
90 km/h outside urban areas
130 km/h on highway (110km / h from November 1st to April 1st except Vilnius-Kaunas highway 100 km / h throughout the year).

Safety belt: compulsory for all passengers. It is prohibited to use the front passenger seat, for the children who are under 12.

Headlights Required from September 1st to April 1st.

Mobile phones prohibited while driving.

Maximum tolerated alcohol: 0.4 g / l. (If exceeded, immediate withdrawal of driving license).
